How long has it been since you last stopped and reflect about your goals at work? or personal objectives?
In my experience, to do a retrospective means to invest time to have a break and analyse how things are going, with the aim of improving them/itself.
Collins definition: 'feelings or opinions concern things that happened in the past.' [LINK HERE].
๐ I personally apply retrospective both in my SMART goals at work (I wrote about it here [LINK] ) and in my personal life. It helps me to set/review my goals, to improve myself and to understand if I am going in the right direction.
The fact that you are reading here, itโs thanks to a break of personal retrospection that led me to redefine some objectives, giving rise to this weekly space for sharing and reflection.
One of the ways to do this is by using the "Starfish" system explained below.
Stop These are things that are not bringing value, or even worse, getting in the way.ย Itโs time for these to go.
Less These are practices that are already being done but might need refining because it is not currently helpful or productive in the current situation. This could be as simple as a behaviour, an activity or a routine that is not efficient or value adding in its current form.
Keep These are things that energise you/the team, is adding value and something you/the team is doing well and you recognise the value on it. What are the good things in your project or what will people miss if it isnโt there?
More These might be practices, technologies or activities that you/team members think there should be more of or is not currently being taken full advantage of. This might be additional paired programming or running more short sharp meetings.
Start a new idea, orย ย something you have seen working before that you would like to bring to the table. It might be something simple or just to keep things dynamic and fun.
